My high school engineering students are designing and developing competitive robots and have earned US National and World Robotics titles for their incredible Engineering Design Notebooks, which they present and defend to professional engineers. We do not have a classroom printer and students must print at home, email files to me to print, or use a printer that streaks and bleeds, all creating barriers to efficient and effective learning. My students are some of the brightest minds and hardest workers I have ever had the honor to teach and a high quality scanner/copier/printer would increase their productivity, allow them to focus on more advanced and critical problem-solving skills, and give them time to significantly enhance their work that is already exceptional. Last year, my seniors were able to author an Engineering Design Notebook that earned the Design Award at the World Robotics Championship and their work was so incredible that it is now used as the text book for my Robotics 1, Robotics 2, Robotics 3, and Advanced Technology - Robotics (Honors) courses. This was only possible because one of our students had a high quality printer at home. Unfortunately, she has graduated and students no longer have access to such a printer.
