Due to COVID-19, our students have missed out on so many of their early learning opportunities. Many of my Kindergartners did not have a preschool or pre-k experience. As educators, it is our job to fill in those gaps and provide students with the materials needed for success. To help fill those gaps I would need items such as letter and number molds, tweezers, magnet wands, small animals, etc. Sensory play has proved to help with the following things: - Builds nerve connections in the brain that enable a child to complete more complex learning tasks. -Supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction. -Helps to calm children that are anxious or frustrated. -Allows kids to learn different sensory attributes such as cold, sticky, dry, wet, rough, smooth, etc. -Develops an awareness of the senses through hands on learning. Perhaps the best part about sensory play is that it provides an opportunity for every child to succeed. All children can find comfort and fun in sensory play!
