Culture-Rich Books Create a Mirror and Window for Diverse Learners!
Funded Oct 3, 2024My amazing students and I have been having so much fun with the books donated to our classroom through your generous contributions! Currently, our Knowledge curriculum has been centered around the Ancient Greek Civilization and its contributions to our life today. The students haven't been able to get enough of this unit and have had such fascinating and insightful connections to the donated trade books and the core ideas from our curriculum. There have already been several times a student has come to me after reading one of these books saying, "Look! This is just like what we talked about in class!" Plus, they can give even more detail because they've been able to expand on those ideas and go into depth while reading independently.
These books have been placed on one of the bookshelves in our library throughout the Knowledge domains they align to and students are welcome to take them to read independently during class time. They have even been eager to finish their classwork to have time to read these content books as fast finishers!
One of my sweet, bright students named William noticed these books being brought in and asked about them the other day. I explained that they were books that went along with our Knowledge domains that they could read if they got really interested in what we were learning in class. He was very excited and said he couldn't wait to start reading them because he had been loving learning about the Greek Gods and Goddesses--especially Zeus! He has never been more eager to learn and it has really been amazing to me as a teacher to watch him go from reluctant to learn to not able to get enough!
Thank you for your kind donations--you have truly helped me provide a wonderful experience for the kids in my class to explore and extend their knowledge on such a larger scale than I possibly could have on my own this year. Thank you, thank you!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Frisby

Funded Jan 31, 2022Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom! The supplies and materials I received from your charity allowed my students to more fully engage with the essential literacy and mathematical activities we do every day. These activities are special because they meet each individual student where they're at in their development of core concepts and provide them with the best possible chance for growth and success. We use an online program called iReady every day to reinforce essential literacy and math learning concepts and to push students to new levels of understanding and mastery.
We have also been able to do extensive research projects on the different habitats of our world thanks to the technology garnered from this generous donation. This research project was an absolute favorite of my students and they begged to continue on with their research long after. The headphones donated to my classroom have opened new doors for my students and provided them with learning opportunities previous unavailable to them.
Not only am I extremely grateful for this donation, but my students are as well. For months, my students have kept their headphones in optimal condition, taking the time to carefully organize and store their headphones after using them several times each day.
My students have gained great confidence with the mirrors and magnetic letters as literacy tools. I have watched their phonological awareness soar as they've discovered what saying the sounds in words looks like and mimicking that visual in the mirrors. These literacy tools have helped my students become better readers and I now feel confident that they are ready to tackle 3rd grade!
It has also been a true joy to watch my students' imaginations broaden as they build with their new STEM kit, learning key concepts behind engineering and design. They've explored each book with great curiosity and I have been happy to indulge in their questions with them as we dig deeper into the subjects they're truly interested in.
Thank you so much for the irreplaceable experiences you have provided my students with. We are continuing to use the materials donated to our classroom each and every day and I am so grateful for the tremendous impact in my students' learning they are making.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Frisby
