Research shows that student vocabulary, engagement, and overall achievement is in direct relationship with the amount of reading they do each day. In a time when student instruction time has been interrupted by a global pandemic, this project aims to procure funds to build a rich classroom library of varying reading levels as well as varying genres and subjects. This library will be used to continue a daily independent reading time at the beginning of each of my classes. If given choice and offered high interest books, high school students can regain or develop a love of reading, adding to their overall physical and mental health and academic achievement. As students begin reading more often, vocabulary development once stifled by COVID-19 will continue development at an increased rate.
