Coming back onto campus after not having a DCAC college adviser the past years made me start from scratch to build relationships on campus. I am fortunate enough that my school site is my alma mater and staff recognized me. I used my resources on campus to support the transition as the new DCAC advisor. Not only is DCAC on my campus but so is Cal-SOAP, which has helped me with students on their FAFSA and college applications this fall. Since we were on campus this semester, I have organized our center to host college programming events such as college week and cash for college events. Families participated the most when we hosted cash for college and learned more about the services we offer on campus for the students. My networking with students help me build relationships on campus that now new teachers and staff knew who I am on campus and brought more students to my office. The most popular event is socio-emotional support on campus. Many students who I supported are first-generation and are trying to find guidance when hearing the word college. I held workshops school-wide to give them life skills that will not only help them in their college life but also their careers. My senior PIQ workshops were the most popular to support them in completing their college applications. Compared to freshmen who came to see me on workshops on how to advocate for themselves on campus and to find their resources. I want to use the supplies to support my students with college access or post-secondary support.
