Strengthen Community Through Sewing, Fashion, and Art

Funded Jan 31, 2022

Thanks to the accessibility of these resources, my students have been able to use the materials to create sewing projects to help the community and further their knowledge on sewing and textile construction. One project in particular that my students got to do is create quilted bags.

For my sewing students, I'd really love to give them more variety in their pattern selection for their service projects. This was a great opportunity for me to learn how my students pace their work and so, moving forward we will be able to plan out enough time to allow students flexibility in their project pattern selections.

When my child development students received confirmation about being able to tie dye, they were really excited. They were so happy to create something for their robot babies to wear that they got to create and design. They loved the opportunity to do this, and it allowed for a unique activity they might not have gotten to experience otherwise. Many students had not tie dyed prior to that experience, so they loved the learning experience and seeing the final product of their onesie.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Morrison
