Flexible seating allows my students, who all learn in different ways, move their bodies and regulate themselves while learning in my classroom. Students who have the need to move their bodies constantly or who have a lot of energy, benefit from flexible seating. Flexible seating allows students to choose how they want to work: standing, sitting, in a wiggle chair, on a bean bag, on a ball. My classroom has clipboards and desks at a variety of heights so students can have the flexibility to work wherever best suits them. When my students have the option to sit in a chair that can move with their bodies, they are better able to channel that energy and focus on learning. Also, allowing my students to advocate for themselves in my classroom is a goal of mine-- to allow students to make choices for themselves to better their learning experience! What I want for my students is for them to have the ability to succeed and flexible seating will help them do so.
