In our "new normal" world, students face more challenges than ever. Teachers often pay for our students' needs out of our pocket, because we know how much these tools will help.
I have observed a large increase in the social-emotional needs in the students I teach. For that reason I am requesting several items to continue to build positive relationships. We use post it notes every week. The students write compliments to one another. The students cherish these notes all year. Peer opinions mean everything to them. I have included the Question of the Day to build community and empathy. We will improve our writing skills while focusing on more than ourselves. We will use all of the pencils and pens daily. Highlighters can be used to improve our writing and for reading text closely.
Many of my students struggle hold still all day. It can deter learning when students are feeling stuck in a chair. To help these students I am requesting kick bands and wobble cushions for our chairs. These will help the students to be able to release some of their energy and focus on tasks.
I am requesting several different incentives to help motivate student learning with positive behavior support. The students love stickers for their water bottles, erasers, pop its, and Rubik's snakes. The last two items fore mentioned are fidget toys for students who need them. My students asked me to look for the books included. Whiteboards are used daily to work problems and show our understanding. Students prefer whiteboards to worksheets. The games and clock will help to make learning those skills more fun and motivating.
