My students are better engaged in learning when they have a hands-on experience. This project includes items that will be used in language arts, math, and independent exploration time. As a way to differentiate in my classroom, I make sure to offer children opportunities to learn in the way that suits them best. In order to provide audio, visual, and kinesthetic learning, I teach with words and songs, I show things up on the board, and I also provide manipulatives so they can work out problems with their hands. Many of my students did not attend preschool last year. They did not learn how to socialize with peers. I like to end the day with fun activities called "Kid Zones." My students look forward to this every day. During this time, I pull out STEM type manipulatives for them to work with in small groups. What they choose to do with the materials is purely up to them. I have witnessed children learning to share and expanding their imagination. At first look, a passerby might say we are just having playtime, but it is so much more than that. It is an opportunity to develop fine motor skills, critical thinking, and social skills.
