If you can read this, thank a teacher. Learning how to read is not an easy task, it takes years! For some of my first grade students reading has developed smoothly and for others it has been a challenge, but a challenge they do not give up on trying. Differentiation is critical for my class and one way I strive to achieve differentiation is through small group Reading Centers. The Centers are currently useable but regretfully sub-par. The problems I noticed include: lack of visibility, lack of access, and lack of visual structure. Each of these materials will contribute to a more effective and engaging experience for Reading Centers. The Mobile Teaching Easel will allow me to meet for Reading Centers wherever my students are in the room without compromising on a student's visibility or access. In conjunction to the Easel, the Leveled Library and Checkout Chart will support students taking more responsibility as well as student goal setting. Finally the Literacy Centers Chart, this item will be a visual for students to have direction of where to go for centers and it will allow me to change the centers as often as necessary. Overall each of these items will not only support Reading Centers but also the comfort and structure of the classroom.
