My project is to introduce the fantastic organs of the body to my students. With these models students with the potential of becoming tomorrow's doctors and nurses will have access to the tools they need to discover their passion. These models will be used to teach in classrooms through interactive and tactile learning to see examples of how the ear works, how the teeth grow or why the heart and body need blood, and to understand how our skin protects us. This type of learning takes abstract ideas, like the parts of the body, and shows the students what they look like and what they do. They learn they have not only the ability but the power to ask questions to enhance their learning experience for the rest of their life. This is the prime age for them to be introduced to out of the box ideas and to be well-rounded in their education. They are typically put into several small groups to learn about a single organ, and they are taught the health of the sum of the parts is vital to the health of the whole. When they pick up a model learning becomes fun and teaches them not to be afraid to ask questions and to build self esteem with their peers. They have more control of their learning experience. The opportunity to get more hands-on access to medical education models my influence these students to pursue a medical education of their own. These anatomy models have never been available to the students in this area, so for many of them, it will be their first opportunity to understand the way the human body works together and with that understanding will come greater interest in taking care of their own health and taking care of others.
