My students are special needs students and they have been impacted harder than the regular education students due to COVID-19. Having magnetic fraction tiles will help my students understand concepts better. Getting our resource students prepared to participate in the classroom with their regular education peers takes every minute we have available.
The fraction tiles, WACOM drawing tablet used with my smart board in class, and structured whiteboards for math equations will help my students to visualize and conceptualize, and that is when we see the lights go on! With these items for this project, I will be able to demonstrate concepts more clearly, helping my students' comprehension of what the purpose and function of those concepts are and what it means going forward with their studies.
Rehearsal is key with struggling students. The curriculum books show different ways to present concepts. The more angles we have to show math concepts, the faster the lights turn on. My special needs students were already behind their peers before COVID-19 entered our lives. Now that deficit has been magnified and it's more crucial than ever for our students to catch up!
Almost all of my students struggle with reading. It's not enough for them to read a text and have an understanding of what they just read. The book companion manuals I have requested will help to break down books, chapter by chapter, with interesting and fun worksheets, quizzes and activities. These will help my students to reinforce concepts that were touched on with the texts we are reading.
Also, the Classics Made Easy texts have original, unabridged literature, but it also includes informative background information of the period it was written, the author, and has a handy glossary with words from the period or just words the average reader might not understand. When using these tools, my students comprehend considerably more out of class.
