My students love learning math with a whiteboard. If anyone came into my classroom and asked students what tools help them learn, about 90% of them would say a whiteboard. It is a popular tool in my math class, and my students constantly rely on it. My students are also working on their collaboration skills in math class. Many of them love to talk. Thus, one of the skills we are currently working on is having directed, meaningful conversations in math class. Unfortunately, right now, my students don't have spaces to collaborate. They have desks, and their desks are shaped like trapezoids, making them hard to move into groups. When we work on problems together in class, many of my students are shouting across the empty spaces created by their desks, and they cannot collaborate effectively. They cannot put a standard piece of paper in the middle and share their thoughts or share their work. My goal is to change out some of the desks in my classroom for whiteboard tables. I have also requested two magnetic desktop easels so my students have another way to share their work with other students and the class.
