As a first-year teacher, I strive to give my students a comfortable, safe, and engaging place to learn! In order to do this, I want my students to feel like coming into the classroom is as welcoming as going home to their bedroom and snuggling up with their favorite blanket. In order to achieve this ideology, I am looking to invest in flexible seating options such as lap desks, a dry-erase table, ottoman, storage desk, balance balls, etc. Not only will this aid in my students' comfort levels, but it will also aid in their ability to work to become self-motivated learners especially after the effects COVID has taken on their learning this year. "Teachers can open the door, but you must enter it yourself" -Chinese Proverb. By giving students this sense of autonomy, in one of the simplest manners, you are opening that door for them and saying "you have a voice here!" It gives them a choice at the beginning of their day to be involved in class and release their energy positively. In order to be an active learners, students have active in every aspect, not just their ears. Giving their bodies the ability to do this will help them engage in their own learning every day and help combat the learning loss they may have faced during COVID. My students will finally take control of their learning once again and see the academic achievement they have been needing through these unprecedented times.
