This project will give children with learning disabilities opportunities to build motor skills and coordination by having proper types of tools and toys to utilize during therapy sessions (scissors, core supplies such as cutting paper for craft projects, and opportunities to use adaptive tools like pencil grasps) to improve their ability to hold writing tools and demonstrate functional abilities with a variety of classroom tasks and tools. For some children, they will be given opportunities to build hand strength, so they can demonstrate endurance during many school activities including writing. Some of the products will also help kids to manage their emotions and levels of regulation that can be impacted by sensory processing concerns. Some of the learning outcomes that will be facilitated include scissor skills development, handwriting development, and self-regulation skills. Other school activities will also see positive results as kids build motor skills for self-care, academic tasks, and non-academic activities (succeeding and becoming more independent) such as recess and lunchtime.
