I have taught sophomores for eight years at Riverton High School and have limited resources in my own classroom of books to be used in lit circles or independent reading. Sophomores are supposed to be studying multicultural literature and I would love an opportunity to ramp up the materials on my shelf to include a wider range of voices and demographics. It is essential for students to gain sight of a wider range of challenges and points of view to improve their empathy and awareness of their fellow man. They will share their communities with more understanding and kindness having spent time in someone else's shoes through a gambit of diverse narration. The books I have chosen represent a wide range of authors from around the world.
