These materials will help students with reading difficulties learn compensatory strategies to increase comprehension, fluency, and word connections. These supplies will also address the sensory needs of students so they can focus on learning. Books that are included in this project are books that have specific sound patterns or language structures. Reading books that have a targeted language/speech form can help students pick out those skills and practice them in a natural setting while reading and discussing the books. These box sets “Nija Life Hacks Emotions” and “A little SPOT of Emotions” target social-emotional learning for students with difficult backgrounds that have not quite learned how to communicate with their teachers and peers. Other books, “Sheep on a Ship,” have repetitive speech sounds that work as auditory bombardment for students learning these sounds. The last part of my project targets the sensory needs of my students while they are learning. The wobble seats help students who need to wiggle, wiggle in their seat and stay focused on the therapy I provide. Students who struggle with sensory overload often need a sensory "diet" to help eliminate distractions and make them comfortable in the school setting. It is amazing to see a simple sensory intervention can help immensely with student performance.
