Flexible seating is something that will help students through their academic learning struggles and also social skills. My students have been affected by COVID-19 and, as a result, have more energy at school due to being at home so often and being away from their peers for so long. Offering them flexible seating is something that will allow them to move and learn at the same time. Flexible seating gives students the choice and control over their learning environment, which is something that has been lacking due to COVID-19. It will also be a benefit to their physical health, being able to wobble, bounce, or lean in their seats will increase oxygen to the brain, which will increase their focus in the classroom. Offering flexible seating will also impact students social skills, by having to share with their peers and learn to take turns once again in a world that focuses on instant gratification. Flexible seating will not only help students bounce back from some of the COVID-19 consequences, but it will also help my students with already existing special needs. Students with sensory overload like ADD, ADHS, and ASD would benefit greatly from flexible seating options in the classroom. It is my goal to provide students with options that are best for them, and that is what I hope to do with this project!
