One of our biggest challenges of late has been the effective blending of learning that can happen both in-person and remotely; both in real time and asynchronously. Much of our work in class is constructed in real time with teachers and students using pens, markers, and posters. The iPad/pen combo, in combination with a casting device like the apple TV will allow us to do it in such a manner that work is visible equally in real-time to students who are present and working remotely. A recording function will enable students learning asynchronously to follow the process, in addition to having the completed resource in the end. Additionally, students will be able to cast their own screens to collaborate and show their work. Technology can also help my ELL students meet speaking standards with greater fidelity. Using the iPad and pen, students will be able to make recordings of themselves using academic language with real-time visual supports using images and the draw function á la John Madden. I can also use the iPad for screening/intake, something which is often difficult because incoming students do not yet have their own computer. Lastly, the lights and chair are a continuation of my efforts to build community through a safe and welcoming environment.
