The most important focus in first grade is learning to read. In light of COVID-19, many first graders are playing catch-up in order to reach grade-level reading. We practice our reading skills in small groups each day, and I struggle to keep children motivated. They get bored with the same old routine each day. A variety of phonics activities and manipulatives will help me keep my little learners engaged. Magnetic letters, reading games, activity cards, and other phonics learning materials will help my students become engaged learners. These materials are also multi-sensory. They address visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning. Children learn best when multiple senses are engaged. These materials will enhance my students' phonics instruction and help them to reach their reading goals.
