Reading has often been demonstrated as one of the most effective tools in increasing students' literacy in their first language. This research transfers to students who are acquiring a second language. Increased amount of time reading leads to increased acquisition of vocabulary and helps to improve students skills in writing in a second language. I currently have a small library of books from which students are allowed to read occasionally when there is extra time in class, but it is limited to just a few books on only a few topics. I intend to expand this library and include a wider variety of novels written specifically for French language learners. By giving students more choice, they are able to choose books on topics that interest them personally. In some cases, students will be allowed to check out books to take home and read when they need to quarantine or otherwise need to miss school for various reasons.
