Our students absolutely loved these incubators! All our our chicks and ducklings hatched, and the students got to see the magic right before their eyes! After many failed attempts with previous incubator experiences, this magic was so awesome and incredible to see.
The chicks take 3 weeks to develop, so as they were developing, we were learning about these amazing animals with books, writing and craft projects. The kids could visually see the parts of the chicken that they had just learned about in books and through craft projects.
Finally, these incubators helped us grow as a classroom community. These animals became our brothers and sisters, and it was so hard to say goodbye to them when we took them back to the farm.

This classroom project was brought to life by Valhalla Foundation and 36 other donors.

Our kindergarten team is in desperate need of new incubators. Our current incubators have lived a good life and in the past few years have proven to need replacement as we've witnessed unsuccessful hatches. These new incubators will help our kindergarteners fully observe the life cycle of chicks and ducks without disappointment, failure, and heartbreak. They will be able to observe daily growth and development inside the eggs and experience the magic of life over the incubation period. Additionally, with these new incubators, the students will be able to clearly see the hatching process, since the incubators are designed for amazing observation. These incubators will serve 5 classrooms, giving over 100 kindergarteners this truly amazing experience. Not only do these students reach their required science standards, but also thrive through math, reading and writing, as this unit is integrated across all areas of learning. Students hear stories and collaborate on projects as well as writing letters the the chicks in the incubator! This unit is truly magical, and we cannot wait to get started!
