COVID was a huge impact on elementary-aged students. The class I am currently teaching is the class that had their kindergarten year affected. Kindergarten is one of the most formative years in a child's growth, both socially and academically. With over half my class coming in reading below grade level, it is evident that COVID has put young children at risk. My goal with this grant was to find and purchase read-aloud books so that I can help my students grasp social/emotional learning, introduce new topics, and help with reading comprehension. This also allows me to introduce new genres of books in a large group setting. I am excited for this opportunity to supplement my classroom with materials that will help bring my students back onto grade level. Lots of times, teachers are forced to acquire these types of materials out of pocket. It's so nice to see that the community is rallying behind teachers to help us provide the best environment for our students!
