According to Winnie Dunn's Model of Sensory-Processing, people have sensory needs that can be described under one of the four following quadrants: Low Registration, Sensory Avoiding, Sensory Seeking, and Sensory Sensitive (Brown & Dunn, 2010). Each of the quadrants are represented within this classroom. Flexible seating will benefit each of the students in the classroom. a benefit of this project is that it will allow students to use their cognitive ability to better focus on the academic task at hand. Additionally, this project will work to decrease hyperactivity at the same time increasing self-regulation and focus. With this project, I plan to use the different seating options to help meet the needs of my students with sensory needs that may be different from those of their classmates. I plan to use this project so that every student has the option for a flexible seating choice. By giving the students the choice in their seating, I will be allowing them to take ownership and a more active role in their own learning. I plan to use these items so that every child has a flexible seating arrangement. Additionally, the balance balls will be used in the reading center as a way of growing their love for reading. By implementing this project into my classroom, my students will be given a choice in their learning as well.
