I teach an Anatomy Academy course which is taught collaboratively with Boston University pre-med and medical students/mentors. The University mentors teach via Zoom on how our bodies work on the inside. The 6-week lesson course covers categories such as the digestive system, lungs, heart, muscular/skeletal, brain, etc.
The equipment requested: jump ropes and various equipment balls will be used during the activity section of the course work to help raise awareness with heart rates and expand lung capacity.
Our off-site P.E. course requires transportation of equipment for which we plan to use the collapsable wagon for. We are fortunate to be able to work collaboratively with B.U.,however, lack of equipment has hampered our effectiveness in teaching the lesson in it's entirety. Each piece of equipment is used to design a physical activity associated with the lesson of the day; whether it be a heart, lung, or digestive system lesson. Once we are able to attain the necessary equipment, then the project can be taught in completion.
Each session ends via Zoom with our University mentors providing closure, explaining the intricacies of our body works on the inside as it responds to exercise. Each lesson teaches the message of Wellness; physically, mentally, and emotionally. By offering a thorough explanation of how our body works, then implementing an activity, ending with a question and answer period with their mentors and myself, our students are able to see themselves as life-long learners of living your best self through healthy choices.
