So much of the literature taught in classrooms today reflects the experience of the white dominant culture. With these texts, I hope to decolonize the literature offered in classrooms and in particular to support, acknowledge, and celebrate the linguistic and cultural diversity of the Multi- Lingual Language Learners in my own classes. The only way I know how to disrupt the dominant cultural narrative reflected in the literature taught in our classrooms is from the ground up. This variety of stories offers narratives that are rarely reflected in modern high school classrooms, or respected as "literary." I want to show students that their culture and experience is valuable and important to study in school.
