The requested supplies will help in several ways. The nonfiction reading books highlight biographies of many people, including multicultural leaders. I am also excited to add picture books that center on math concepts. These books will provide readily available reading materials to complete research projects and passion projects. The varied science supplies will supplement the science core concepts that 4th graders are expected to learn. They will get hands-on experiences building circuits with the science kits, turning on LED lights with their battery power and conductor tape. They will experience light wave characteristics with the laser maze game and experience growing their own bacteria in a petri dish to support their understanding of the structure and function of living things. I am also hoping to provide special whiteboards with the long-division process outlined, to assist with this challenging 4th-grade concept. Additional protractors that are small enough to work with the problems in their math book will also be helpful. I also will feel empowered as a teacher to model place value more clearly with magnetic manipulatives and number lines. Lastly, our classroom will also be more functional with supplies like magnets, clips, tape, and the addition of a large timer to motivate kids in time management. Other time-saving organizational tools, an electric stapler, and a paper organizing system, will save on teacher time. A more supplied and smoother classroom will be the result!
