A high capacity color printer with refillable ink tanks will provide an efficient and less costly way to print quality materials for my classroom. It will allow me to create colorful, engaging sound walls and phonological awareness activities to support their development of phonemic awareness and letter sound correspondence. Research has shown that while color improves the educational experience for all students, it can be transformational for students with learning disabilities, such as dyslexia or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. A Vowel Valley Sound Wall and Consonant Sound Wall will support students with learning those tricky high-frequency words. They also support students in retaining and learning to read unfamiliar words on their own. A sound wall does the work of matching our articulation of speech sounds/phonemes to the letters/graphemes that represent those sounds. In addition to the sound walls, I will be able to create engaging, explicit and systematic learning activities to build a strong literacy foundation. To further support their learning, I am asking for shatterproof mirrors so that my students can see their mouths when articulating sounds and a complete box set of match a sound phonemic awareness activities. In addition, the magic boards and cards will provide students practice correctly forming the letters in the alphabet. My students need and deserve high-quality teaching and materials to help them finish their first grade year as proficient readers. Please help me provide this for my first grade students.
