COVID-19 has disrupted learning for the last 2 years. Because of that, many of my 5th graders are coming to me without the prior knowledge they need to be successful at the 5th grade level. Some of the holes in their learning I don't pinpoint until the middle of a lesson or small group. This is requiring a lot of differentiation and a lot of different materials, and I'm not always able to get the materials I need directly when I need them. I am asking for a printer and toner to be funded so that I can directly print the materials I need as soon as the students need them. I would love the ability to print differentiated literacy passages and math skills pages to pass off immediately to my students. My incredible students deserve to have their needs met as quickly as I can meet them. In addition to quick access to differentiated material for on the spot learning, 5th grade is a huge year in writing. We spend a little less than an hour every day writing and honing our skills. It all leads up to publishing day. My students would love to have their final works printed directly to our classroom printer so they could hang their work themselves. I think this would make the writing process more satisfying for them and give them even more of a sense of ownership.
