Middle school students have had a hard time learning math online. It is a subject that requires face-to-face interaction. Not only face-to-face with a teacher and student, but also student to student. When students share what they are learning with their peers, they learn the material better. When students are forced to learn math remotely, they lose that chance to interact. I hope to include more hands-on activities in my class that will involve more student interaction. When students are engaged, they learn math concepts more deeply. I hope to get the items I've requested into the hands of the students for the following reasons: The dry erase markers and whiteboards will allow students to freely work out problems with greater ability to refine and fix their errors. There are 8 sets of fillable 3d shapes that will allow each student to explore the relationships of cylinders, cones and spheres. Eight sets of the game "The Game That Makes Math Fun" will allow students to interact socially, intellectually as they gain a better attitude toward the subject of math. I plan on handing out the Math Vocabulary Word Wall to the students in various circumstances to improve math vocabulary. Calculators have been requested so that they can be present at the students' desks at all times. Not all students have the ability to purchase a scientific calculator. Learning how to use a calculator correctly and efficiently will allow the students to learn math at a faster rate and advance through their learning. Thank you for supporting education in Utah!
