Allowing students to see themselves reflected in classroom learning is critical for engagement. Through the use of books, posters, and diversity inclusive materials, it is my goal to draw upon students’ cultural capital and engage Multilingual Learners by making content relatable through incorporating their unique backgrounds. My students will be able to use these books as a window to glimpse into the inspiring lives of other individuals who come from similar cultural backgrounds, experiences, and struggles. It will help students to feel that their culture and language is valued, validated, and incorporated in the learning experience. It is also very important that all students have the ability to view the world through a diverse cultural lens, which diverse classroom literature can help to achieve. As a part time ML specialist, I have kept my requested materials around $500.
