While some of these items will be used to represent the diversity of my students, other items will be used to address the diverse needs of my students. Items such as student books and toy figures will allow students to see themselves, their families, and their traditions represented in media and within play. For example, I have a student with AFO's (leg braces) and it would be so exciting to see him realize there are toys that look like him, leg braces included! Sensory items such as fidgets and water based toys will be used to create a sensory wall that students may access when sensory needs present. Printer ink will allow staff to create visual supports and communication tools for students. I have also included a variety of surgical masks for both staff and student use. I and my instructional assistants service preschool students 3-5 on a site that also houses infants and toddlers. Adult masks will allow us to best protect this health- vulnerable population and your donation would help us offset the costs of this (living in the Bay Area is pricey!). Children's masks would be utilized to give my students options in mask choice on those days when wearing a mask may be a challenge for them (providing options is a strategy we use with young learners and students with differing needs alike).
