The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services estimates that at least one in five children and adolescents has a mental health disorder sometime before adulthood. As a school psychologist, I work with students who have significant social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. My students are doing their best, but they still have difficulty understanding how to read and regulate emotions, use coping skills, and deal with stress. These difficulties have become more acute during the pandemic. I am asking for donations that will help me purchase sensory items (like putty, breathing balls, infinity cube, and sensory snakes), items to help concentration and cooperation (lego set and puzzle), items to teach critical thinking skills (origami puzzle game, riddle and puzzle books), and books to help me build my curriculum for coping skills. The materials from this project can help me more effectively teach students how to deal with their emotions, use tools to help them be successful, and create a space where they can feel safe.
