My incredible students have endured so much to stay in the vocal performing arts during this difficult pandemic. They've had to socially distance, cancel concerts and tours, sing in masks, forgo singing for live audiences.
Despite each of these discouraging circumstances, these students have persevered and made music a priority in their lives, and deserve the very best educational experiences I can offer. One of the major challenges we've faced in the vocal arts is singing in masks. It has taken a hit on vocal development and understanding. The selected vocal anatomy models of the larynx, diaphragm, and resonating chambers will give students hands-on experiences that they can immediately apply to their understanding, especially because behind the mask, the vocal anatomy is hidden too!
In addition to the vocal models, I've selected a djembe, bodhran and a variety of other instruments. Each of these will enhance the music we invest in. A primary reason I included instruments was specifically for my very beginners and life skills students. In a program that ranges from brand new musician to near prodigy level, it can be a vulnerable thing to start singing. When I can place an instrument in the hands of a student, it's amazing to see just how empowered they become as they begin developing their musicianship skills. When a non-verbal life skills student come into my classroom, they feel so important when they can contribute to their ensemble with the instrument in their hands.
Each item selected will benefit each one of my students. These kids have sacrificed so much to stay in the arts and continue to give music life. And I think it's true for many of them, as it is for me, that music has given them life. Please support my incredible students.
