This year I am doing self portraits with my students. The items I have requested such as paint, canvases and other materials will be used to create these masterpieces. I’m hoping each student will be able to see their own beauty and strength as they work to create these portraits. They will also have this souvenir to look back and remember this time in their lives and know that they have made it through hard times and can do it again. Art has always been and will always be both an opportunity to escape the harsh realities of life and to create a more perfect and beautiful world that lives inside our imagination. During the last two years, art class has been a chance for my students to have a break from the day to day stresses of school but more importantly it has provided respite from the uncertainty of the world we live in. I hope through these projects my students can find and recognize their own strength and beauty.
