Hearing individual sounds in words--phonemes--is essential to a child's reading success. We use a reading app daily that helps children learn to hear and recognize these sounds. When we run short of headphones it is difficult for each child to focus on the sounds coming from their own device. We also loose a lot of instructional time while I am trying to find the headphones that work while weeding out the old, worn out ones. When each child has access to headphones it becomes possible for them to hear phonemes correctly, a task that is vital for our English language learners. It will be great to know that each child can hear with clarity as they work at their customized pace on this excellent app. I love seeing the quiet smiles that come when a child realizes that they have learned something new or mastered a difficult task. Becoming proficient readers is a gift I want all Kindergartners to have.
