We call the art classroom our 'Art Studio'. In the art studio we have large desks that allow space for all of the supplies being used. There is colorful collaborative projects on the wall, as well as inspiring art from famous master artists. A timeline displaying art history and popular art movements wraps the room. Examples of student art, from years past, hanging on the walls, leaves a legacy noticed by new students. One of my goals as an art teacher is to provide an environment where students can't help but get lost in their work. If you walk into our art studio, you will notice students silently engaged in their creative projects. Quiet music playing allows the students to relax and focus on their work. The environment is calming and inspiring at the same time. Amazing art can be created with recycled supplies, we do it all the time. We paint on cardboard, and use 'trash' as references or mediums. But, to have the opportunity to paint on stretched canvas is trilling to a young artist. It somehow feels more important and valuable from the beginning. At a time when things in life are a little stretched for students, a stretched canvas would make a difference.
