COVID-19 hardships have widened the gap among student math levels. Covid has also increased the amount of stress students are dealing with. The need for differentiated lessons, small group interventions and flexible paces for learning has increased with these issues. Providing some tools in my classroom for de-stressing would be so beneficial.
The headsets, mice, splitters, whiteboards, dry erase markers, and pencils will give my students adequate materials for collaboration activities, computer work, and small group instruction. My current headsets are either broken and trashed, or the foam ear padding is falling apart. The headsets I've chosen appear to be better quality and have a cushion for the ears instead of the thin foam. The mice will give students a choice between trackpad and mouse; an option I can't currently offer. The splitters will allow students the ability to listen to online activities/videos with a partner and collaborate as they work. All of the above items will be used to enhance computer use and classroom instruction, as well as math related assignments and activities.
A small wellness area where students can go as needed for a quick break wuth tools to destress during class would be a benefit. The sensory toys, stress balls, etch-a-sketch, and water/sand motion toys will give them options to choose. The timers will help them know when to finish up their time there. For bigger de-stressing needs, students can still go to the school Wellness Room, but for those who just need a minute or two, this would be a great addition to my classroom.
