It is difficult to find French story books when you don´t live near Canada or Louisiana and it can get quite expensive when you try to buy French books on the internet. This project with DonorsChoose will allow me to finally start a classroom library and it will help me encourage my students to learn and practice French as they read. A good book can help us learn more about the world around us. Through reading we can remember what it was like to be a child and to use our imagination. Books can also help us to open our minds to other perspectives so that we can learn to respect the things that make us similar and/or different. I have always dreamed of having a classroom library filled with French books for my students to read and enjoy while they are learning the language. As I was selecting books, I tried to pick a wide variety. I chose several story books for my beginning French students as well as some books for young readers that I can use with my intermediate level and dual immersion students. I know that my students will enjoy looking at the artwork and reading Asterix et les jeux olympiques (Asterix and the Olympic Games) and Tintin l´etoile mysterieuse (Tintin and the Mysterious Star). I also picked out some books to help show my students the diversity in French culture. I think they will enjoy reading Xeinixx (a story about a Senegalese girl who expresses herself through graffiti and slam poetry) and Un voyage difficile (A Difficult Voyage, which is about a family that leaves Haiti to seek refuge in the United States.) I could really use your help to make this dream a reality for my students.
