This project serves three main purposes. First, providing multicultural literature in the classroom to provide my students with characters that represent their diverse backgrounds and stories that entice them. Next, providing students with class sets of grammar/language games to practice spelling, syllables, and other aspects of grammar. Finally, adding extra motivators to keep students focused throughout this era of uncertainty.
These various books and learning materials will transform the learning environment in our classroom. My goal is to help students feel comfortable, happy, and motivated so they have the best chance to learn and keep a growth mindset. By giving my students a more complete library with books written by diverse authors with characters in multicutural backgrounds, students desire to read will increase. As this interest grows, so will their reading scores and their attitude about literature and English Language Arts overall. The addition of classroom games will help students learn in a non-stressful environment. They will have a better idea of how grammar applies to their lives rather than just being busy work or a chore. Then of course, it is important to have classroom motivators to keep students engaged and participating even on hard days. Many students love having something to hold to keep them focused or a piece of candy in exchange for reading aloud. I know that these items will help my students be able to conquer 8th grade English Language Arts and be more prepared to move onto high school and become their best selves.
