Two years ago, we began to teach and practice mindfulness at our school. We provided each of our students with a calming bag to be used at home during remote learning. It included practice mindfulness cards, a fidget spinner, a zipper bracelet, and some silly putty. We also gave each teacher their own calming bag and a calming box for their classroom. This year, with students back in person, we now have a calming room that we call the Zen Den. Students are able to come to this safe place to regulate their emotions and also learn new calming/mindfulness practices to be used at school, at home and in the community. This project will allow us to receive a sturdy and comfortable rocking chair to be used in the Zen Den. Currently, we have a yard sale find that is on its last rocker. This project will also allow us to receive an item for all students for the calming bags for the fall as well as calming tools for the Zen Den.
