As a Teacher working with students during the Pandemic, what we need to do is to find creative and engaging assignments that students can not only complete anywhere, but are actively trying to return to the classroom in order to maximize their experience. First of which are Oral reports, also known as Broadcasts, Podcasts, and How to's. During the Pandemic, students lost almost all their opportunity to use their voice. While there was an online presence, it was mostly with photos and with texts. The microphones are to help students create oral reports in creative measures that they can write AND practice at home, and then record them at school or to check out a microphone if needed for at home. In addition, these groups must remain small for greater recording standards which follows CDC guidelines of Student Social Distancing and the attempt to slow the spread of Covid 19. The Second project is Engagement through Marketing. History class is generally seen as a subject that is Reading, Writing, and Source Analysis. However this is missing one of the most crucial parts of the Social Studies Umbrella; Civic Engagement. Students need to learn more than just the content, but also to instill the dispositions so that they can care about their environment. By using the Cricut and the Heat Press, Student projects throughout the year can include marketing ideas that are not only hypothetical digitally but can be made real using actual materials so that students can show their ideas to their peers in a way that they not only understand but can respond to. Students will not only be civically engaged but they will be emotionally engaged in class as well by allowing their own creative ideas to be brought out.
