I will use the magnets as we build and blend words in phonics. I’ll also use them for phonemic awareness. For example, I’ll show the word cat and then I’ll show how we can replace the C for a B to make the word bat. I’ll use the tall teacher magnet whiteboard to display the magnets and it’s tall enough that we can all see it during rug time. Students will be able to use the easel and magnets at centers. The tiles will be used to spell words and will help to build our phonics and spelling skills. Each child will have their own sturdy set, with red vowels and blue consonants. I’ll use the magnet writing boards when we are doing word building, writing sentences, and when we are practicing letter formation. The styluses attached to the magnet writing boards will help us because I won’t need to buy replacement whiteboard markers as often and they are so fun to use. The big chart paper is wonderful for modeling writing for shared writing experiences and when I am showing them how to do things for the first time. All of the choices I’m requesting are meant to be hands on materials. I notice my students improve and succeed more if they can work with their hands to build words, so I want to make learning as active and enjoyable as possible with these engaging reading and writing materials. All of the materials will help me to teach them reading and will help them to be confident writers. Every child will use the materials every day. I am so excited to have them. I hope you choose our class of 60 first graders to help. These materials will be used at school.
