My students are ready and eager to learn! Unfortunately, with limited access to resources and instruction in their pre-K years, many students are now coming to kindergarten with limited language exposure and lacking fine motor skills and early learning skills such as writing their name, or even identifying letters and numbers. Meanwhile, some of their peers come to kindergarten already reading, writing, and performing arithmetic.
This carefully curated list of items contains the materials that my students need to find success in the face of numerous obstacles created by the COVID-19 pandemic such as limited socialization and educational opportunities in their pre-K years and ongoing quarantines.
The leveled readers and BOB books will allow students practice reading at their level and take materials home when necessary for quarantine so that they can continue learning outside of the classroom. Sound phones will allow students to better hear the phonemes that they are producing so that they can become more accurate readers, in conjunction with the compact mirrors that will help students see how they are articulating individual sounds (correctly!). Puzzles and lacing and tracing boards will help students who had limited exposure to developmentally appropriate activities due to COVID-19 to improve their fine motor skills, letter, and number recognition.
The magnetic tiles, Unifix cubes, coins, and pattern blocks will allow each student to have individual math manipulatives. This makes manipulatives more accessible to students, more sanitary to use in class without sharing/spreading germs, and possible to take home when necessary.
Thank you for supporting these young scholars!
