  • Literature in Every Language

    Funded Oct 13, 2023

Thank you so much for your generosity. My students are going to be so thrilled to discover the literature that they all can read and to see themselves represented in our class library. I can’t wait to see them reading in our soon to be cozy reading nook with the supplies you have gifted to us.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rizzuto

  • Creating a Community of Flexible Collaboration

    Funded Jan 23, 2022

Thank you so much for your generosity. My students have been so grateful for the new tools you helped provide them. They were so thrilled when they came in one day to find the seat pockets already set up with their numbers on them and full of wonderful new tools. The pockets provided the perfect place to store their new headsets and helped my students be accountable for their very own set. They have loved using the sand timer for their screen time limits and reading goals.

The headsets have been just what we needed and even provided an unexpected bonus. They have even allowed some of my struggling readers/writers to find success in a recent animal research project we had. Those students were able to watch read-aloud books about their animals and then were able to use the microphone with our digital recording platform to create videos of their notes for their project. The success they found by having this tool was unbelievable!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rizzuto

This classroom project was brought to life by Utah State Board of Education and one other donor.
One thing teachers have noticed since returning to the classroom from the COVID shutdown is the need for building the social/emotional tools our students possess. In my classroom, I have created a calm-down corner. We call it going on vacation. The bean bag chair I am asking for is for that little corner of peace and relaxation. While technology was once a fun idea in a second-grade classroom, it is now a vital component to developing a well-rounded and capable student. Having workable headphones will allow my students to complete assignments on their Chromebooks accurately and will help them focus as they won't be distracted by outside noises. This also allows me more flexibility in creating differentiated lessons as students with accommodations have the option of listening to instructions being read to them and utilizing the attached microphone to speak and record their thoughts into the platform we use. Additionally, the whole class will benefit from the microphone for partner work. With spacing needs due to COVID partner work has been greatly diminished. The use of break-out rooms in various platforms gives students the opportunity to do partner work but it can get very distracting and noisy when everyone is talking at the same time into their Chromebooks. The seat pockets will allow the students to easily be able to get to the learning materials they need and will provide safe storage for their headsets so they don't get mixed up with another student. Finally, the manipulatives I have asked for will add to my teaching dynamics and allow for ease of use when recording lessons for distance learning. In the classroom, it has the same effect in the ease of visibility with the magnetic component. The timers will provide additional flexibility and accountability in student choice activities.
