With the use of an incubator and agar plates, my classes will investigate the evolution of bacteria and antibiotic resistance. This will be tied to the Utah State SEEd standard 7.3.1, which teaches about unicellular and multicellular organisms, as well strands 7.4 and 7.5 which teach about genetics and evolution. Once my students understand the evolution of bacteria, we will be able to discuss the evolution of viruses like COVID-19. As students gain more knowledge about viruses they won't be as confused, scared, and overwhelmed by all the information being spread right now. I believe arming students with knowledge is the key to students feeling secure during the pandemic.
