My students are some of the brightest students I have had, however many of them need a way to move in order to help them focus on the material being taught to them. Because of their need to move to focus we have been learning about the importance of our social and emotional well being. We all need different things for ourselves and it is easier to recognize our own needs, but I also want my students to be aware of others needs and be accepting of what others needs may be. With having so many different personalities in our classroom it has helped us, as a class, learn to accept other people ideas, needs and quirks. The items in my list will help my students be able to learn and concentrate in ways that work for them. For example, seating that allows them to move without having to leave their desk area. Another example is being able to use tools to apply what we are learning in math in more practical ways (brain flake, magnetic building sticks and base 10 blocks). Helps answer the question of "When are we ever going to use this!" or "How will this ever be used!". Some of my students work better by themselves on a computer so good headphones is a necessary tool to be able to concentrate and not worry about how the headphones fit or falling out of their ears (earbud problems), they can just grab their headphones and get to work when it's time. I love and want to see my students succeed and I want to be able to help them not only achieve academic success but also see success in their social and emotional well being.
