Because of my students learning disabilities, they tend to struggle academically but the added stress of COVID presents even greater challenges to them. Each day I am asked many questions from my students...about masking, vaccines, loss of employment, loss of housing, concerns about rising costs, concerns about loss, how to manage their wellness and their focus, how to get better grades, and the list goes on. As an educator, I feel it is my job to help teach my students the skills and give them tools that will benefit them and help them find success. One of the tools I've been teaching my students is mindfulness. We regularly practice mindfulness in our classroom. It has been helpful, but it would be so nice to have a dedicated corner my students could move to when they need a little more time to self-regulate but can also be supervised. Having a quiet corner in my room with bean bag chairs, coloring books, a timer, and a faux aquarium would be a great start to our Mindfulness Corner. This grant would fund this corner. Thank you for your consideration.
