With science standards changing just before COVID, we have been incorporating more of a hands-on learning approach to science. If I am awarded the funds, I would like to buy resources to increase this type of learning. Students will be actively engaged during science with these visual resources. First Grade science standards include learning about the moon, it’s patterns, and the impact on Earth. I have found a great tool, Moon phase blocks. Students can arrange the phases while each is taught. To increase understanding of Earth's rotation and revolution, a Sun, Moon, and Earth model would allow students a more concrete understanding. Plants are another science standard covered. The grow light, would allow students to witness a plants life cycle in the classroom. Using plastic pots would allow this demonstration year after year. The last science standard I want to enhance is light and sound. Students would benefit from experimenting with their own crystals over a whole group demonstration. Sprinkles, moving to the beat on the Bluetooth speaker, allows students a better understanding of sound waves. Eye and ear 3D models help students see a more complete visual compared to a picture on a piece of paper. The engagement brought by these resources are bound to further students curiosities.
