The materials that I have requested are the areas that I have identified as most needed for the school psychologist office. Given that so many of my students are nuerodivergent, there is a need to provide alternatives. My students deserve to have a space where they feel comfortable learning. By providing seating alternatives my students will be able to have a choice when it comes to seating. The seating also meets many of their needs which include rocking, which many fine comforting. For others, the motion that is allowed by these chairs assist with concentration by allowing enough movement that does not distract the student and others. Most concerning, is the need for diverse literature, where students are able to not only see others who look them but also to learn and listen to the stories of what have been accomplished by those coming from a similar background or same circumstance. Many of my racially and ethnically diverse students are facing bullying and lack of self-esteem. By providing books where students are represented will allow me to share the stories of others and provide exposure to those who are both similar and different, aiding in cultural competence.
